Residents must bring their own headphones if they want to use sound. There is no other way to listen to sound from the lab computers. All have DVD burner/writer. Standard software includes:
  • Open Office 3.1: Can open/edit Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint files.
  • The latest Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox web browsers with Flash, Shockwave, Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Quicktime, iTunes, RealPlayer, Windows Media Player

One multi-media computer is available. It has a scanner and a CD burner/writer. Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator is available on the multi-media computer only. It is only for Residents that need to use the scanner, CD burner/writer, or Adobe PhotoShop or Illustrator software. When the computer lab is full it may be used for other purposes.

All computers print to a mono-chrome (black & white) printer. A fax machine is availabe only for outgoing faxes to local or toll free numbers. It will not receive faxes. A copy machine or color printer is not available at this time. Residents that need to copy a small amount of documents (1-5 pages) may use the multi-media computer scanner to print a copy. Volume coping, faxing, or color printing is best done at a place like Kinkos. See printing policy below for details.

Residents trying to print from other programs such as Corel Word Perfect and Microsoft Works should save their files as an RTF (Rich Text Format) document. Rich Text Format is a universal format which still keeps font and paragraph formatting. It can be opened and edited in any editor. Residents with PCs without Microsoft Office can download free alternate office software on their own computers. Various ones are listed on the ResNet support site.
